Livonia, Mich. (Aug. 8, 2017) — St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea will offer a free 12-week peer-to-peer mentoring program beginning in September. The educational course will provide participants with a supportive, safe and confidential environment to meet with and learn from trained National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) peer mentors who also live with mental illness.
This course will help participants:
• Understand mental illness • Discover new coping strategies • Reduce stigma • Gain knowledge to help empower • Connect with others who share a similar experience • Find volunteer and advocacy opportunities

In October we will be working with Homes for Heroes to collect new and gently used socks for homeless Veterans in Michigan.
Socks are the #1 needed item at homeless shelters.
Three ways you can help! 1. If you live in Livingston County, we will be distributing bags to as many homes as possible October 9-12 and then picking them up October 14 & 15. 2. Drop your new or gently used socks off at RE/MAX Platinum  6870 Grand River Ave, Brighton, MI during the week of October 9-15 3. Join our team to help on the ground! We will need help distributing and collecting the bags during this week. If you live in a neighborhood and are willing to take responsibility for that area, perfect. REHIREMENT AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT SECOND SILVER SOLUTIONS NETWORK ROUNDTABLE
Arlene Kaiser, Coordinator of the Waterloo Area Historical Society and the Waterloo Farm and Dewey School Museums. Arlene is going to be a presenter at the Silver Solutions Network 2nd Roundtable meeting at the Chelsea Area Senior Center, October 16th at 1:00 p.m.
On October 16, SILVER SOLUTIONS NETWORK will offer a second Roundtable event hosted by the Chelsea Senior Center, introducing four Chelsea organizations that are seeking volunteers and part-time help. The four organizations who will present valuable information on the needs for their organization are: Adult Learners Institute, Chelsea Historical Museum, Chelsea Retirement Community, and Waterloo Area Historical Society. Representatives from all four organizations will present the mission and work of each of their organizations, as well as the specific help they need. There are a variety of opportunities to be involved in these organizations and they all have opportunities for short-term involvement as well as longer term commitments. This second Roundtable discussion follows the first roundtable discussion which was so successful in bringing organizations and interested volunteers together. This second Silver Solution Network Roundtable discussion will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. p.m. on October 16 at the Chelsea Senior Center. To make a reservation, please call (734) 475-9242. St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea to Offer Personal Action Workshop for people living with long-term health problems — St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea will offer a Personal Action Toward Health (PATH) Workshop, a free six-week educational opportunity designed to provide skills and tools for people living with long-term health concerns, such as diabetes, cancer, arthritis, high blood pressure and heart conditions.
The workshop will help individuals:
• Manage every day activities by making an action plan • Manage symptoms • Decrease stress • Increase energy • Avoid disease complications • Improve communication with your health care team and family • Improve overall health and well-being • Stay independent

The Millville United Methodist Women will be hosting a Turkey Supper and Bake Sale on Saturday, October 28 from 5 to 7pm. The meal will consist of Turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, homemade dressing, Key West vegetable medley, cole slaw, and rolls. Dessert will be either pie or cake.   All profits from this meal will go towards various mission projects.  The bake sale will offer you a variety of baked goods to choose from. The meal is for a free will offering and take outs will be available.
