(April 13, 2017) – St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea, in partnership with the Cancer Support Community of Greater Ann Arbor, will host a professionally instructed weekly yoga class for individuals impacted by cancer. This class supports well-being and physical recovery through strength building yoga postures, gentle movement, breath awareness and relaxation. All patients, survivors, friends and family are welcome.

Location: Physical Therapy Gym inside St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea, 775 South Main Street in Chelsea

Reservations are now being accepted for a bus trip to Historic Sauder Village on May 2 for the Annual Quilt Show.
The cost of $65 includes bus transportation, lunch at The Barn Restaurant, entrance to the Village and entrance to the Quilt Show exhibit featuring over 450 quilts. Â The bus will depart from the Leslie city parking lot (100 Commercial Drive) adjacent to the police station at 8 a.m. and return around 5 p.m.

Participants will learn all about what keeps them stuck in behaviors they don’t like and develop the skills needed for lasting change.

Yoga is a terrific way to increase flexibility, strength, and muscle tone with a low impact workout. Other benefits may include improved respiration and circulation, and many people report improved stress management. Yoga classes will meet on Tuesdays starting May 9, at 4pm. Cost is $5 per class. This class is led by Julie Kirkpatrick.
These two classes, Tai Chi and Krav Maga are led by Paul Christianson. Tai Chi is great for people who would like to improve their balance, strength, coordination, or focus with a low impact, slow motion type of exercise.Â
Excellent for those with balance and coordination issues, joint problems, heart problems, stress or anxiety, and can often be helpful in managing chronic pain. Good for all interested ages and stages of health. Tai Chi classes will meet on Tuesdays and Fridays starting May 9, at 6pm. Cost is $5 per class.
Krav Maga is for ages 15 and up, with the maturity and self-restraint to properly manage the skills that will be taught. This martial art is an energetic form of exercise that will teach self-defense skills. Classes will provide a cardio workout and strength building while also focusing on self-control and skill
development. Krav Maga classes will meet on Tuesdays and Fridays starting May 9, at 7pm. Cost is $80 for a 6 week session.

(May 15, 2017) — Two Chelsea-area farmers markets, sponsored by St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea and The Wellness Foundation, opened earlier this month and are being held each week on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Chelsea Farmers Market and the Bushel Basket Market bring fresh, locally grown or produced food to area residents at an affordable price.
Both farmers markets have temporarily changed their regular location, as construction for a new and more permanent farmers market will be built in the coming months at the Palmer Lot.
The Bushel Basket Market runs Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and is located on the corner of M52 and Old US-12, in the Chelsea State Bank parking lot. The Chelsea Farmers Market is being held on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is located in the lower library parking lot along Park Street. Parking will be behind the Purple Rose Theater (128 Park St., Chelsea, MI 48118) or on side streets.

There will be lots of fun in Dansville on Memorial Day! The annual Pancake Breakfast at the Dansville Community Center, 1317 Mason Street, will be served from 9-11am in the dining hall and will consist of pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, applesauce and a variety of beverages. A free will offering is asked for your breakfast and will go to the Dansville Food Bank. Â
After you’re done with breakfast, stop by the Multi-Purpose room for some free activities. You can make a parade craft and get your face painted! For more information contact 517-851-7853.
