    SCALED WINGS: MICHIGAN BUTTERFLIES, MOTHS, AND YOU!

    Monroe, Michigan – Superintendent Scott J. Bentley announced today that River Raisin National Battlefield Park will assist in hosting a program called Scaled Wings: Michigan Butterflies, Moths, and You! on Saturday, June 1, running from 1pm until 3pm.

    Join us for a fun day learning about butterflies and moths from Michigan, their history in the state, and what you can do in your own backyard to help them. Come enjoy local school butterfly armatures on display as well as a short film on butterflies. Stations will include caterpillars, silkworm eggs, and crafts. The grand finale is a butterfly release outside at 3pm.

    The event is free and will take place at the Monroe County Historical Museum at 126 S. Monroe St., Monroe, 48161.

    The 123th Stockbridge High School Alumni banquet will be held June 8, 2019, at Heritage Elementary School in Stockbridge at 5:30 p.m. The class of 1969 will be honored in celebration of its 50th anniversary. Graduates of all classes are urged to attend this time-honored event.     SRSLY members have been planning for months and are excited to announce they are hosting a free showing of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” at 9:00 pm on Saturday, June 15th to conclude the 25th Annual “A Day in the Village” community festival. The movie will be shown outdoors on the lawn of the Stockbridge Town Square. There is no cost or tickets to attend. Concessions will be sold. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on, and get set to enjoy this classic film with family and friends!

    Free pre-movie games and activities will start at 7:30 pm on the town square.  Themed stations will include:

    • Juicing Room – balloon dart game
    • Eggdicator – Plinko
    • Inventing Room – slime making station
    • Fizzy Lifting Drinks
    • Wonka Vision Station
    • Oompa Loompa photo board
    • Plus prizes and other fun!

    In order to ensure the event runs smoothly, SRSLY is in need of volunteers who can help in a variety of roles. Volunteers are needed for event set-up, supervising activity stations, and to take photos. A Civil War encampment will be on grounds depicting life of a soldier. Visit Dr. Roger in the Log House as he talks of medical practices and hear the tale of Kistie’s flour barrel. Watch socks being made on a 19th century sock machine. Tours of the 14 room farmhouse and 9 outbuildings will be available. The schoolmarm will explain classroom practices and rules at Dewey School.
