Doug Prater, a father figure to many youth in his church community, is also a man who shares his strong faith with his own children.

“All my memories are special,” daughter Cyndi reflected. “He was simply always there for us, no matter what.”

Prater, formerly a singer with the Glory Land Singers, also shared his love of gospel music with his children. Son Anthony (Tony) and Cyndi joined him in singing at church services. Now grandson Nathanial Eibler accompanies him on the keyboard.

Prater spent decades working in the Church of God youth ministries and the Highest Praise Worship Center in Stockbridge.

As a father he tried to set a good example. His children noticed and followed his lead. Unlike some kids who grow into years of rebellion, Cyndi fondly recalls averting that phase.

“My teenage years spent at the mall was family time out,” she said. “There was nothing for me to rebel from.”

Cyndi said her father’s opinion always mattered. She grinned and pulled back her hair to reveal proof. “Still to this day I have never pierced my ears because my dad said not to.”

The busy father found time to coach Tony’s Little League baseball team at Dansville schools. Today, his son is working in youth ministries.

Doug Prater and wife Kathy raised their family in neighboring Dansville. After the children grew to adulthood, the couple moved to Munith. There they reside today, and for nearly a decade, the children have lived as close neighbors.

Prater may often be found on his riding mower, giving a hand to those in need of help. His faith also leads him to provide comfort to the dying, and over the years, he has officiated at countless funeral services.
