FROM CADL STOCKBRIDGE

by Head Librarian Sherri McConnell

Halloween has passed but I must give a shout out to the Friends of the Stockbridge Library! They built a terrifying lamp-post tree for October. Unlike the trees outside, this tree gained leaves as people contributed scary book titles that were tied to the branches. More holidays are coming up, and the Stockbridge branch will be a part of community festivities. Watch for us in the Festival of Lights parade on Nov. 30. Santa’s favorite animals will be visiting the library on Dec. 3 from 3-4:30 p.m., so stop by for hot chocolate and a wintery craft. On Dec. 8 we’ll celebrate the season with music from Generations and light refreshments from 1-4 p.m.

CADL Stockbridge is proud of the services and programs we provide to the community, and what we do is one of the reasons Capital Area District Libraries received the 2019 State Librarian’s Excellence Award. This award recognizes a Michigan library that provides superior customer service.

“Selecting one library for this recognition is quite difficult,” said Randy Riley, State Librarian. “The Capital Area District Library impacts Ingham County communities daily and consistently finds new and inventive ways to bring their resources to the people. Programs that garnered the selection committee’s attention included working with Ingham County Jail inmates; a ‘library of things’ that loans appliances, tools, games, and other things, besides books, at no charge; outstanding local history resources; a ‘Girls that Code’ program; and structuring meaningful community conversations.”

If you want to see what the Stockbridge branch has to offer, check out the community calendar in the Stockbridge Community News and stop by the library! We are open 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday through Friday; 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday; and 1-5 pm on Sunday.

Capital Area District Libraries’ Stockbridge branch is located at 200 Wood St. For more information, call 517-851-7810 or visit cadl.org.
