From the superintendent’s desk: Welcome back

by Karl Heidrich
Welcome back to the 2018-2019 school year! We hope you had an enjoyable summer.
First of all, we would like to thank our school district community for passing our operating millage renewal. We appreciate your continued support of our school district.
Over the summer, our administrative team has been working hard preparing for another successful school year. We hired our current athletic director Meghan Kunzelman to also serve as the new junior high principal. We also have a new special education director, Greg Molenda, who will be working in the district.
Our summer construction projects are on schedule and near completion. You will find new LED lighting at Smith and Heritage, new flooring in the Smith gym and new doors and windows on the original portion of the Junior/Senior High. Also over the summer, new classroom furniture arrived at the Junior/Senior High School.
Last spring, the board of education, our administrative team and staff worked on the development of a new three-year strategic plan for the district. We are excited to continue to offer a diverse and balanced curriculum to enhance and maximize the learning potential for all of our students. The new district plan continues with the theme of rigor, relevance and relationships. Our emphasis is to continue to expand relevance-based coursework with high-quality instruction for the development of college- and career-ready skills for students. We also would like to strengthen and continue to build relationships both locally and regionally with businesses, industry and postsecondary institutions. We will continue to work on our action plans throughout the school year to make progress toward attaining our goals.
If you would like to schedule a tour of any facility, please do not hesitate to call. We enjoy showcasing the quality educational programs at each of our school buildings. If you have questions or concerns at any time, please stop in, email or call. We are looking forward to an outstanding school year.
