House fire in Unadilla Township displaces six

A house fire that started around 7 a.m. on May 16 displaced six residents. The home, on Dexter Trail, was a total loss, and resulted in the loss of the family’s pets, including a dog and turtle. The family’s cat was found unharmed after the fire

According to Unadilla Township Police Chief David Russel, everyone was able to escape. One individual was transported to the hospital for an issue not directly related to the fire.

The fire remains under investigation, but the cause is believed to be accidental. Firefighters from multiple jurisdictions responded to the call. Unadilla Township, Putnam Township, Hamburg Township, Stockbridge, Howell and Dexter Fire Departments used an estimated 500 to 600 gallons of water to extinguish the initial fire. Unadilla Township Police, Michigan State Police, Dart and Livingston County EMS assisted at the scene.
