Lady Panthers Stumble at Airport Showcase

The girls’ basketball team could not overcome the loss of its leading scorer due to an injury and fell to Division 1 Bedford 39-19 at the Carleton-Airport Holiday Showcase Wednesday.

The Panthers struggled early as they fell behind the Kicking Mules 10-2 after one quarter.

Things did not get much better in the second when the Panthers leading scorer Gwen Rogozinski took an inadvertent elbow to the forehead, leaving a bloody cut and sending her to the locker room. She would not return and be taken to the hospital and receive stitches.

In spite of the loss of Rogozinski, the Panthers held tough with Alaina Kellenberger scoring six points in the second. Paige Stolarz would add a basket in the second and the Panthers trailed just 16-10 at the half.

Bedford would get hot in the third and the Panthers did not have enough firepower to hang with the Mules.

Gracee Robidou would nail a triple in the third and Kellenberger continued to be a force underneath with another basket, but Stockbridge would trail Bedford 30-15 after three.

The Panthers would try to rally in the fourth with baskets by Kellenberger and Robidou but it wasn’t enough as the Mules pulled away for the 39-19 win.

Kellenberger finished with a team-high 10 points.

Robidou finished with five points, Stolarz two, and Rogozinski two before leaving the game.

The Panthers fell to 4-3 overall on the season. They return to action Friday, January 6 when they host Manchester at 7:00 PM.
