MHSAA Allows Fall Sports Teams to Start Competing

Fall sports teams are allowed to start competing when the Representative Council of the Michigan High School Athletic Association reinstated the 2020 season after Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s Executive Order 176 lifted restrictions that previously did not allow the sport to be played.

Whitmer’s executive order also allows for an immediate start of competition boys soccer; Lower Peninsula girls swimming & diving and girls volleyball on Wednesday (Sept. 9) for schools located in Regions 1-5 and 7 based on the MI Safe Start Plan.

There is a key spectator restriction that comes along with the reinstatement.

Teams will be allowed just two spectators per athlete into indoor and outdoor contests, which will limit other fans from attending the games until further notice.

For Stockbridge, this will effect football, volleyball, and soccer.

With the current Stockbridge schedules, volleyballs first contest will be Wednesday, September 9 at Olivet. The Panthers first home contest will be Monday, September 14 against Lansing Christian.

Soccers first contest will be Wednesday, September 9 at Manchester. The first home game will be Monday, September 14 against Lansing Christian.

The football team will begin its six game season with its week four opponent. The Panthers will host Comstock Friday, September 18.

Football will play a six game season and all teams will make the state playoffs with the Finals being played December 4th and 5th. In these different times, Ford Field is not available for the state finals, so the games will be played at a neutral site.

It is not known at this time how the executive order will effect middle school and other youth sports.
