Panthers Roll to Road Win in Wyoming

Long road trips can be fun for high school sports teams and they are even more fun when you win.

The Stockbridge football team will be having a very happy bus ride home after rolling to a 47-6 win over Wyoming Lee Friday night.

The win was the third straight for the Panthers after starting the season 0-5.

The resurgence for the Panther had been powered by the defense. During the 0-5 start, the defense gave up an average of 49.2 points per game. During the three-game winning streak, the same defense is allowing just 13 points per game.

Feeding off the Panther’s new defensive success is the offense who put up its highest point total since 2016 Friday with its 47 points.

Stockbridge opened the scoring against Lee with a 30-yard punt return by Lucas Gauss early in the 1st quarter for a 7-0 lead.

Brandon Nelson connected with Noah Robidou for a 26-yard scoring strike to give the Panthers a 13-0 lead after one quarter. Nelson would finish with four TD passes in the game.

Wyoming opened the second quarter with a one-yard TD run to cut the lead to 13-6, but it was all Stockbridge from there.

Josh Lewis ran one in from 13 yards out to make it 20-6 and then the Panthers blew the game open when Nelson hit Jeremy Pilch with a 73-yard scoring pass with 21 seconds left in the half to make it 27-6.

Nelson opened the second half with a seven-yard TD run to give Stockbridge a 33-6 lead and the rout was on.

Two more TD passes from Nelson to Brad Niec for 11-yards and to Robidou for the second time for 36-yards finished the scoring.

Nelson finished his big game with 268 yards passing on 11 of 16 passing and four scores. He also rushed for 43 yards and a score.

Lewis rushed for 71 yards and a score.

Robidou caught six passes for 102 yards and two scores, while Pilch caught two for 103 yards and a TD. Riley Kennedy caught two passes for 49 yards and Niec one for 11 and a score.

Ty Ayers was in on 10 tackles and a fumble recovery to lead the Panthers defense. Micah Beauregard added seven tackles and also kicked 5 extra points. Lewis was in on seven tackles, Kennedy six, Robidou and Gauss five each, and Matt Killinger four and a fumble recovery.

The Panthers host Owosso on Senior Night Friday night in the season finale.
