SAEF sponsors 16 scholarship funds

The Stockbridge Area Educational Foundation (SAEF) sponsors 16 separate scholarship funds. Each affords between $250 and $5,000 for college or trade school bound Stockbridge graduates. These scholarships serve as the “wind at their back” to further the education of Stockbridge graduates. They also provide recognition for high school accomplishments, motivation to manage the complex college application process, and they provide some relief from the significant financial burden of college.

SAEF President Jennifer Hammerberg, who oversees the administration of these scholarships, said, “Memorial Scholarships are an enduring and forward-looking tribute. Each year the future of many promising high school graduates receives a lift while the memory of loved ones is honored, and the backing stays local.”

The 2018 Stockbridge High School’s Honors Night, held May 17, awarded memorial scholarships in the name of Richard C. Howlett, Donna E. Schumacher, Darwin D. Snider, Jeff Becker, Jamie S. Outwater, Don E. Krummrey, Joe Heeney, Laura M. Goodin, Richard Hoard, and Thomas D. Basore. The many acknowledgements were moving.

In addition, Honors Night scholarships in the name of SAEF itself and former Stockbridge Superintendent, Bruce Brown were presented. Also presented was the John Donohue Good Citizenship Award. Each year it is quite common for more than one deserving Stockbridge High School graduate to receive a scholarship from the 16 funds managed by the foundation. Twenty-four Stockbridge graduates received scholarships this year. In the fall of each year, the foundation presents the Mason R. Cutler Memorial Cross Country Scholarship.
