The Stockbridge High School FIRST Robotics team not only competed in an off-season event against 15 other teams on Saturday, Aug. 10, but they also won it.

To participate in the First Mid-Mitten RoboRodeo. (https://midmittenroborodeo.com), five students and one mentor traveled to Lake Odessa, MI, and the team delivered an outstanding performance.

Each of the 16 teams competing teams was paired with two other random teams per match, competing in a total of 12 matches in three-on-three competitions. The Panther Powered team (Team 6591) qualified for the next round, coming in second with a 9-3 record.

This ranking made the Panther team the captain of the second alliance and allowed them to complete their team by choosing players from other teams. The Panthers had the second and seventh picks of the remaining 14 teams. They chose Team 5460 – Strike Zone of Lapeer, MI, and Team 703 – Team Phoenix of Saginaw, as their alliance partners.

During the first round of playoffs they squared off against the third-ranked alliance. They proceeded to defeat their opponents in a best-of-three competition, winning the first two matches. While this competition was in progress, the first ranked alliance defeated the fourth-ranked alliance, 2-0.

With the first- and second-ranked alliances remaining to play the final round, they squared off against each other. The matches were close, but the Panther Powered-led alliance team rose victorious with a 2-0 score, making them the winners of the event.
