Softball Sweeps Perry, GLAC Leading Olivet Next

The stage is set for a GLAC softball showdown for the top spot between two of the top teams in the conference will take place next week when league-leading Olivet and Stockbridge face each other in a crucial three-game series.

Olivet (9-0) comes to Stockbridge (10-1) for a doubleheader Monday and the Panthers will go to Olivet Wednesday for a single game. Sandwiched between the three games the Panthers will host Lakewood (10-1) in a single game make-up from two previous postponements.

All three teams still have a shot at the GLAC crown with a week remaining in the season. Lakewood and Olivet play a three-game series to end the season.

The Panthers set up the showdown with a three-game sweep of Perry this week.

They opened with a 14-0 shutout of the Ramblers in the first game of a doubleheader May 6.

Paige Wooden drove in the first run of the game with an RBI groundout in the first. The Panthers would add another run on a Perry error to make it 2-0.

Three more runs in the third made it 5-0 and the Panthers finished the game with nine runs in the fourth inning to make it 14-0.

Emily Breslin was nearly perfect on the mound as she fired a no-hitter against the Ramblers. She struck out nine and walked none and the only two runners were on Panthers errors.

Breslin also had a huge game at the plate going 4-4 with two RBI and scored three runs. Katelyn Knieper had two hits and one RBI, while Wooden and Hannah Gutting had a hit and two RBI each.

The Panthers took a 5-0 lead after two innings and went on to a 10-2 win in the second game.

Knieper led the offense with three hits and two RBI, while Breslin had three hits and one RBI. Wooden finished with two hits and an RBI, Taylor Carey two hits, and Michelle Zemke a hit and RBI.

Hannah Lockhart struck out seven in five innings of work for the win for Stockbridge.

The Panthers finished the three-game sweep with a 9-1 win at home May 8.

A four-run first inning and two runs in the second for a 6-0 win as the held on for the win.

Gutting led the offense with three hits and one RBI. Lockhart smashes a home run and finished with two hits and four RBI. Breslin had two hits, including a home run and three RBI, while Wooden added two hits and one RBI.

Breslin struck out 15 in the circle for the win.

The Panthers improved to 18-3 overall.
