SongLab – a creative partnership between the library and the Stockbridge Area musicians

by Paul Crandall, Head Librarian at CADL Stockbridge

We’re very excited to announce that CADL Stockbridge is now accepting applications for a new, unique event putting a spotlight on original music, called SongLab. In it, up to five acts will be chosen to perform their original songs at CADL Stockbridge. The songs will be recorded, and the library will create CDs that will be available for borrowing through the CADL collection. We also plan to make the music available via streaming from the CADL website.

Each act chosen to perform will receive an $80 gift card from Marshall Music and will be entered into a drawing to win $300 in professional recording studio time at Troubadour Recording Studios in Lansing.

Among the eligibility requirements: all music performed must be original, and at least one member of the act must live in the Stockbridge, MI School District or be an alum of Stockbridge High School, and be at least 12 years old. Completed applications, agreements and sound files must be received before Friday, July 13, 2018.

Behind the effort is the library’s desire to help local musicians get heard and to partner with them as they develop their careers, as well as to add locally imagined and produced content to the CADL collection.

As CADL Stockbridge enters its eighth year coordinating the Market Music Series of Friday night concerts on the village square throughout the summer, we are excited about this new phase of involvement with the local music community!

If you want to support original, locally produced music, keep your calendar open for the performances on September 15 & 16 at the library – more details to come. And if you’re a musician local to the Stockbridge area who writes and performs your own music, consider applying! It starts with a phone call to CADL Stockbridge, 517/851-7810.
