Stockbridge InvenTeam presents at State Capitol

Information from Stockbridge InvenTeam and MACUL

On Wednesday, Dec. 8, the Stockbridge InvenTeam attended the AT&T/MACUL (Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning) Student Technology Showcase at the State Capitol Building in Lansing, Mich. At the Capitol, InvenTeam members displayed their FarmBot as well as their Plant the Moon posters.

The FarmBot is a computer numerical controlled (CNC) machine used for precision farming. The FarmBot is equipped with a Wi-Fi router that connects to a mobile device. This allows for accurate planting, nurturing and cultivation of plants when away or from remote locations. To accomplish this, the FarmBot is furnished with a watering tube, a vacuum pump for sowing seeds and a camera that allows the bot to intelligently interact with the garden.

The purpose of the FarmBot is to create an accessible and sustainable way for the food instability threat to be mitigated. This way, people in urban areas will have safe, reliable access to fresh produce, no matter the lack of farmland.

“The 20th annual Student Technology Showcase showcased the brightest and best technology projects in our state, and we were excited to welcome students to the Capitol again this year,” said Mark Smith, MACUL executive director.

While presenting their FarmBot and Plant the Moon posters, the team met several state legislators and other students interested in technology. The Stockbridge InvenTeam, mentored by high school STEM teacher Bob Richards, is honored to share its findings and technology with others.
