Track Teams Host 39th Annual Stockbridge Invitational

A Stockbridge High School tradition dating back to 1980 took place last week as the Panthers track teams hosted the 39th Annual Stockbridge Invitational Friday, May, 3.

Seventeen girls teams and fourteen boys teams traveled to Stockbridge for the event.

The Panthers were shorthanded on both squads as several members of the team were on a band trip to Disneyworld in Florida at the same time as the meet.

The boys finished in 10th place, while the girls did not score in the event. Parma Western won on the boys’ side, while Pewamo-Westphalia won the girls.

Micah Beauregard picked up a pair of first-place finishes for the boys by winning the 800 and 1600, while Maison Beauregard earned a fourth-place finish in the 300 hurdles.

While many of the Panthers did not place for points, they did come away with some personal bests at the meet.

For the boys Brad Niec ran a PR in the 100, Haydan Ellsworth the 200, Kael Youngblood 1600, Brock Jones 3200, and Dominick Hamlett discus.

The girls had personal bests for Haille Fraser the 200, Gwen Rogozinski and Brooklyn Rochow the 400, and Rochow also had a PR in the 800.

The weather has caused some cancelations of several GLAC track meets forcing five of the schools to get together Tuesday, May 7 for a mini-league meet at Lakewood.

The girls split their four meets, beating Leslie and Lansing Christian while falling to Lakewood and Perry. The boys beat Lansing Christian but fell to Lakewood, Perry, and Leslie.

Micah Beauregard was victorious in the 400 and 1600, while Maison Beauregard finished second in the 110 and 300 hurdles. Both Micah and Maison were part of the winning 4×400 relay team, along with Isaac Lance and Luke Suojanen.

Suojanen was third in the 400.

Rylee Tolson led the girls with wins in the 1600 and 3200 and was part of the winning 4×800 relay along with Rogozinski, Rochow, and Kaitelyn Walker.

Joy Youngblood won the high jump and was second in the long jump, while Audrey Austin was third in the pole vault and Carissa Heinzman 3rd in the shot put.

The teams will take part in the Division 3 Regional at Bath Friday, May 17.
