Volleyball Snaps Out of Slump
The Stockbridge volleyball team snapped a recent slump with some strong play over the past two weeks and improved its overall season record to 13-10-4.
The team hosted the Panthers Invitational September 21 and reached the championship game before falling to New Lothrop and finishing second.
Stockbridge defeated Owosso 20-25, 25-18, 15-9; East Jackson 25-11, 25-15; Dansville 25-19, 26-27, 15-12; and Portland 25-23, 27-25 to reach the championship with a 4-0 record.
New Lothrop proved too much for the Panthers in the finals winning 19-25, 17-25.
Grace Hall led the team with 41 kills on the day, followed by Kaylie Shepard with 21. Breanna Salyer had 24 digs, followed by Molly Nichols, while Madison Mazuca had 35 assists and Shepard 26.
Stockbridge dropped a hard-fought five-set match to Quincy 25-23, 27-29, 25-19, 18-25, 12-14 September 26.
Shepard led the Panthers with 12 points, seven assists, and six kills, while Hall had 12 kills and 13 digs. Mazuca had a strong game with 15 assists and 14 points. Whitt added six kills and Salyer 15 digs.
The Panthers will host Maple Valley Tuesday, October 8 at approximately 6:15 PM.
