From the superintendent’s desk: School system to transition from shelter-in-place to ALICE procedures

By Karl Heidrich

Student and staff safety is a top priority for Stockbridge Community Schools. In order to keep up to date with best practices in this area, Stockbridge Community Schools has decided to begin the process of transitioning from our current shelter-in-place procedures to a more current and widely used ALICE procedure.

ALICE training is a research-based, proactive approach to responding to an active shooter situation. It has been adopted by many businesses, schools, and organizations across the nation to prepare employees, staff, students, and personnel for how to respond to violent intruder situations. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate.

Karl Heidrich, Superintendent of Stockbridge Community Schools.

The transition will take time and professional development training with our staff. Our staff training will be completed over the course of spring this school year. All staff will complete an online module and onsite training. Administration is working with local officials and the ALICE organization on becoming an ALICE certified organization for the 2018/2019 school year.
