Sculptor Mike Jones Visits the Stockbridge Library
by Jo Mayer
The Stockbridge Library’s weekly Wednesday Coffee Chat treated participants to something special April 18 with a visit from local sculptor Mike Jones whose work is on display in the back section of the library for the month of April.
Mike shared with an audience of a dozen community members how he goes about creating the types of art on display and gave a little history on his progression as an artist.
From his studio in mid-Michigan, Mike produces figurative sculptures, commissioned portraits, and monuments cast in either bronze (by the Pappas Art Foundry) or polyurethane (painted to look like bronze). Mike also creates corporate and site-specific work. For example, his work, “Available to All” was commissioned by the Friends of the Stockbridge Branch Library some years ago specifically for installation in front of the Stockbridge Library.
