Stockbridge girls junior varsity soccer beats Dansville 2-1

by Bruce Wm. Brown

The Stockbridge girls junior varsity soccer team tallied a big “W” at home April 10 with a victory over Dansville. The Aggies pressured the Panthers early and persistently throughout the match, but Stockbridge scored first.

Evelyn Ortiz-Martinez was a force on the field against Dansville. Ortiz-Martinez put the Panthers ahead early with a perfectly placed penalty shot arching the ball just over the fingers of the Aggie’s goalkeeper to crash the back of the net.

Raven Cruse completed three saves as the Panther goalkeeper in the first half of play. Gracie Allen made three strong shots on goal to keep the Aggies’ keeper on guard. Early in the second half, Raven Cruse caught the corner of the Aggies’ net on a 30-yard midfield shot to put the Panthers up by two.

Dansville was unsubdued and mounted a vigorous offensive effort to regain the match. They scored once but were then shut down by the defensive play of Haylee Howard, Haylie Steinkraus and Gracie Allen. Taylor Crockett marked three second half keeper saves, and the match ended 2-1 in favor of the Panthers.
