Adversity has hit Waterloo First Community Church, but its small and dedicated congregation is determined to “Raise the Roof” and keep the doors open.

With the church roof in dire need of repair, Pastor Georgie Dack launched the “Raise the Roof” fundraising campaign in April. The long-term project has a goal of about $20,000.

It’s a large amount, but Dack has faith the congregation will be able to come up with the needed money.

“This little country church was built by the hearts and hands of the community,” Dack said. “Everyone worked together with personal contributions and fundraisers to build the church. Although it burnt down once, it was rebuilt. It is a part of our heritage.”
Waterloo First Community Church at Territorial and Parks roads has been a part of the community since 1829. It was once a United Methodist church.

Outside of the fire and amid the denominational change, the church doors have never closed, she said. “Please help us keep them open. The roof needs (to be) replaced very soon and we need your help,” Dack said. “We are small in size but large in faith and continue to grow.”

The fundraisers include a bottle/can drive and a GoFundMe account. On May 6, the church held a pulled pork luncheon for a freewill offering. Plans also call for a chicken barbecue luncheon, at a date yet to be set.

“Please help us with your prayers and contributions so we can continue to worship here,” Dack said.
