Smith and Heritage elementary schools focus on kindness and building relationships
by Reaghan Walz
Everyone knows that schools are for teaching academic courses such as math, science, language arts, history and other customary subjects. Teachers and administrators at Smith and Heritage elementary schools believe and are demonstrating that the educational experience extends beyond.
With Heritage focusing on “kindness” and Smith focusing on “building relationships,” teachers and administrations have shown students that there is more to school than academics. The relationships being built at both campuses are helping students learn to self-regulate, fostering independence and building an atmosphere of acceptance and inclusion.
Smith and Heritage have taken huge steps toward teaching students that each is important, they are more than their test scores, and they matter.
