Soccer Season Ends in Districts
An up and downs season for a young Stockbridge soccer team came to an end in the opening round of districts last week as the Panthers fell to Grass Lake 3-0.
After starting the season with six straight losses, the Panthers went on six-game unbeaten streak 4-0-2 to turn their season around.
The Panthers then split a pair of games at the Barry County Christian tournament before falling to GLAC champion Leslie.
They wrapped up the regular season splitting a pair of games in the GLAC tournament, falling to Maple Valley 2-0 and beating Perry 2-1.
The district game saw Grass Lake jump out to an early lead with a goal just over two minutes into the game.
The Warriors made it 2-0 when a corner kick was misplayed and left a wide open net for Grass Lake to put it home for a 2-0 lead. Stockbridge began to put on some pressure later in the half, but a couple of strong chances were wide of the net to keep it 2-0 at the break.
Grass Lake put the game away with a goal in the second half.
The Panthers finished their season with a 6-10-2 overall record.

It may not have been the best year for this team – but these boys and their coaches deserve some recognition. There were a number of first time soccer players and at times there were no subs because of injuries. Many times those boys were on the field the entire game – but they played with a lot of heart until the end. And they won the Stockbridge Invitational for the first time ever! I hope they are all proud of their accomplishments, and I can’t wait to see what they do next year.
