Lady Panthers Stumble Against Pinckney
The Stockbridge girls’ basketball team saw a ferocious fourth quarter rally by Pinckney end the Panthers 10 game winning streak Friday night as the Pirates beat the Panthers 63-61.
The Panthers controlled most of the game and led by 15 going into the fourth quarter, but the Pirates outscored them 29-12 in the fourth to pull out the shocking come from behind win.
Gwen Rogozinski scored eight and Chelsea Asquith five as the Panthers took a 17-8 lead after one quarter.
Pinckney rallied in the second by hitting four triples and scoring 20 points as the Panthers led 33-28 at the half.
The Panther defense clamped down on the Pirates in the third holding them to six points. Grace Hall scored seven in the quarter to help Stockbridge build what many thought to be a comfortable 49-34 lead entering the fourth.
The Pirates thought otherwise.
Pinckney caught fire and hit five triples in the final quarter to rally. They also hit nine of 14 free throws in the quarter to overtake the Panthers.
Stockbridge struggled with just two baskets in the fourth, They did hit eight of 10 from the free throw line, but it wasn’t enough as Pinckney pulled out the win.
Rogozinski again had a big night with 27 points to lead the Panthers.
Asquith finished with 12 points, while Hall added 11. Madison Mazuca chipped in with six points, Brooklyn Rochow three, and Kaylee Dalton two.
The Panthers fell to 16-4 overall on the season. They open district action Wednesday night at Dansville against the winner of Laingsburg and Dansville.
