Obituary: Myrtle Sue (West, Moss) Muraf
Myrtle Sue (West, Moss) Muraf, age 87, passed away on November 1, 2020, under the care of Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home (Jackson, MI). She was born September 1, 1933, in Royalton, Kentucky, to Crusoe Leo West and Dixie Mae (Honaker, West) Jones. At five years old, she moved with her family to Michigan. She left school in fifth grade to help care for her brothers and sisters but returned to school as an adult. She graduated High School with her daughter in 1971.
Myrtle made Stockbridge, Michigan, her home. She held different jobs throughout her life but ended her working career with 25 years as a teacher’s assistant in the Stockbridge Community School system. She was a member of Crossroads Community Church and was active in the Women’s Ministry.
Myrtle was widowed on January 19, 1954, when her husband, Charles Raymond Moss, was killed in an automobile accident. She married Peter Alexander Muraf Jr. on July 30, 1955.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Tommy Eugene West, and sister, Bethel Mae (West) Bradley. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, her four children, Steven (Gloria Cussigh) Muraf, Risha Kelly, Rebecca (Jerry) Turner, and Katrina (Randy) Griffith; Brothers, James (Margaret) West, Lowell (Kay) West and sister, Brenda Strouss; grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and cousins. She loved family and family gatherings.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for those who wish may be made to the Women’s Ministry Service at Crossroads Community Church. 950 S. Clinton St., Stockbridge, MI 49285.
