Lady Panthers Season Ends in District Semifinals

The Stockbridge girls’ basketball team could not overcome a slow start as the Panthers fell to Chelsea 46-37 in the Division 2 district semifinals at Tecumseh Wednesday night.

The Panthers were cold from the start as they fell behind the Bulldogs 12-0 with 54 seconds left in the first quarter.

It wasn’t just cold shooting for the Panthers, the Bulldogs defense was swarming all night, blocking shots and tipping passes that forced a lot of the Stockbridge struggles.

Gwen Rogozinski snapped the Chelsea run with a basket with under a minute to go to make it 12-2 after one.

Gracee Robidou led Stockbridge with seven points against Chelsea

Things did not get much better for the Panthers in the second as Chelsea would push its lead to 25-4 forcing a Panthers timeout.

Stockbridge would get a basket from Alaina Kellenberger and a free throw from Gracee Robidou to cut the lead to 27-7 at the half.

The struggles continued in the third with the Bulldogs putting the game away with an 11-6 run and a 38-13 lead after three.

The Panthers offense finally showed some life in the fourth when the game was well out of reach with Robidou scoring six in the quarter and Kaylee Dalton adding three points.

Robidou lead the Panthers with seven points.

Rogozinski finished with six points, Grace Hall and Kellenberger four each, Dalton three, Chelsey Asquith two, and Rylee Tolson one.

The Panthers finish their season with a 15-3 overall record.
