Tawas City ‘Dangerous Driver’ Arrested in Unadilla Twp Following Police Pursuit

Information provided by Pinckney Police Department

On October 7, 2022, the Village of Pinckney Police Department arrested a 32-year-old male from Tawas City, Mich., following a vehicle pursuit. The driver was suspected of driving under the influence, possession of narcotics, and fleeing and eluding police.

The arrest was the result of several 911 calls to Livingston County Law Enforcement’s Central Dispatch reporting a dangerous driver, possibly in the Fowlerville area. Eventually the driver traveled south and ended up heading west on M36 near Bush’s Supermarket in Pinckney. Callers were reporting the vehicle was driving toward oncoming traffic and failing to maintain its own lane.

When a Pinckney Police Officer attempted to stop the driver of the silver Ford Fusion, the driver refused to pull over, resulting in the police officer initiating a pursuit. The pursuit continued through Pinckney and west along M-36 into Unadilla Township. Unadilla Township police responded to assist and deployed stop-sticks striking all four of the vehicles tires. The vehicle slowed and crashed into trees while still in the Township. The driver was arrested and transferred to St. Joseph Hospital in Chelsea for evaluation.

In all, four law enforcement agencies were involved: Pinckney Police was assisted by Unadilla Township Police, Hamburg Township Police, and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.  According to Chief Garrison of the Pinckney Police Department, this case demonstrated excellent law enforcement partnership and teamwork between agencies.
