Ballagh Ties Three-Point Record in Rout of Maple Valley

The Ballagh name around Stockbridge boys’ basketball is known for three-point shooting and last week the youngest Ballagh put his name in the record books alongside his brother when Joey Ballagh tied the Stockbridge record for triples in a game with seven and finished with 22 points in a Panthers 56-39 rout of Maple Valley.

Joey’s seven triples tie him for the top spot with his brother Skeeter Ballagh for most in a boys’ basketball game. Skeeter hit seven in a game against Vandercook Lake in 2014 and is the school’s all-time record holder for three-pointers in a career.  Gwen Rogozinski holds the schools overall record with eight in a game against Lakewood in 2020.

The Panthers started slowly as they fell behind the Lions 13-9 after one quarter.

Ballagh caught fire in the second, hitting five triples and sparked the Panthers to a 24-5 run and a 33-15 halftime lead.

Stockbridge went cold in the third, but still outscored Maple Valley 8-7 and held a 41-25 lead after three.

Ballagh hit his final triple in the fourth as the Panthers held on for the win to even their record at 10-10 overall on the season and finished 7-5 in the GLAC.

David Kluesner added 10 points for the Panthers, while Keegan Collins chipped in with eight. Drew Philipp finished with six points, Jake Sawicki and Collin Cook three each, Danny Mahler and Drew Robinson two apiece.

The win made it four of five to close the season for the Panthers.

Perry

The Panthers clipped Perry 56-52.

Collins finished with a team-high 18 points. Philipp added 14 points and Jake Sawicki eight. Robinson and Kluesner chipped in with seven each.

The Panthers hit 10 of 13 free throws in the final quarter to seal the win.

Lakewood

The Panthers spoiled the Vikings chances at a GLAC title by knocking them off 61-56.

Joey Ballagh broke a tie with a four-point play with just over two minutes remaining to give the Panthers the lead and Collins hit four free throws in the final seconds to seal the win.

Collins finished with a team-high 33 points, including 17 in a huge fourth quarter. Robinson added 13 points and Kluesner five points. Sawicki and Philipp added three points each.

Maple Valley

The Panthers took down Maple Valley 57-34.

Hayden Ellsworth and Collins scored 12 points each to lead Stockbridge. Philipp chipped in with nine points and Kluesner seven. Ballagh added six points, Sawicki five, Robinson four, and Collin Cook two.
