Big Third Quarter Lifts Lady Panthers Past Perry
It took a while to shake them, but a big third quarter blew open a close game to lift the Stockbridge girls’ basketball team to a 41-32 win over Perry Tuesday night.
The win kept the Panthers tied with Leslie for the top spot in the GLAC with 4-1 league records.
Madison hit a pair of three-pointers in the opening quarter to help the Panthers take a 8-5 lead.
The game was also a match-up between two of the top scorers in the GLAC in the Panthers Gwen Rogozinski and Perry’s Alyssa Welsh. The second quarter the two went back and forth. Rogozinski scored all 11 of the Panthers points in the quarter, while Welch scored seven of the Ramblers ten points as Stockbridge took a 19-15 lead at the half.
The Panthers blew the game open in the third, outscoring the Ramblers 18-8 to take a 37-23 lead after three. Kaylee Dalton scored seven and Mazuca five in the quarter to spark the Panthers run.
Perry did not quit though as they clamped down on the Panthers, holding them to just four 4th quarter points. While the Panthers struggled to score in the fourth, the defense held Perry off to earn the win.
Rogozinksi finished with a team high 15 points for the Panthers. Her counterpart Welsh, who has signed to play college ball at Saginaw Valley State finished with 19 for Perry.
Mazuca finished with 13 points, including three triples, while Dalton scored seven. Grace Hall chipped in with four points, while Chelsey Asquith added two.
