Stockbridge’s Kael Bunce claimed the Division 3 district title at Dansville Saturday, February 15.
Bunce returned to the mat after a recent injury limited his action the past couple of weeks. He went 3-0 on the day at 145 pounds to improve to 27-1 on the season.
He opened with a pair of first period pins to reach the finals. In the finals he faced a strong opponent Ty Anderson (36-4) from Corunna. Anderson took a first period lead with a take down and it stayed that way until Bunce got a two point nearfall in the second. Bunce then got a reversal in the third to take a 4-2 lead. He would be penalized for stalling to give up a point to make it 4-3, but held on for the win to claim the title.
Bunce will take part in the D3 Regional at Lakewood Saturday for a another chance at a State Finals trip. In 2019 he earned All State Honors at the D3 Finals at Ford Field.
Matthew Killinger came up just short in his bid to move on to the regional. He opened with a pin in his first match at 171, but dropped his next two matches to end his day.
Josh Cool also picked up a pin at 112, but dropped his next two matches to end his chances to advance.
