Waterloo Area Historical Society hosted this year’s 47th Christmas on the Farm on December 7th and 8th. With the help of experienced board members and approximately a hundred dedicated volunteers, it was very successful. The preparation and decorating began weeks ahead. The volunteers worked this two-day event and also made beautiful and festive Christmas wreaths and centerpieces the previous Saturday.

Handmade Christmas wreaths and centerpieces were a traditional big hit. People lined in front of the Grainery even before the sale started. Many repeat customers purchased these colorful wreaths, which almost sold out the first day. Christmas baked goods were another festive fund-raiser. A variety of beautiful baskets and a Cardinal Quilt made this year’s Christmas on the Farm’s Silent Auction the most successful ever.

One of the most positive aspects of this year’s event was the fact that many new patrons enjoyed the museum’s history. People marveled at getting up close to the various historical displays. Some felt that the museum seemed even more special than Greenfield Village. Ron Kaiser, Property Manager and Site Developer of the Farm Museum, expressed surprise at people’s knowledge of Michigan History as well as German History. He had several engaging conversations and considered the new folks that attended to be one of the event’s greatest successes.
