OLD-TIME MAPLE SUGAR FESTIVAL: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Saturday, March 9. It’s time for that traditional
rite of spring – tapping maple trees. Take a guided walk to see various methods of collecting sap, and learn how to boil it
down to make syrup. Antique equipment for making syrup will be on display from the Waterloo Farm Museum, and
maple products will be available for purchase. Eddy Discovery Center, 17030 Bush Rd. in the Waterloo Recreation Area
near Chelsea. Contact the Center at (734) 475-3170 for more information. Free admission and no registration needed.

Ladies of the Lights (Teens & Adults)
Dianna Stampfler relates the bravery and determination of the women who protected the Great Lakes
shoreline as lighthouse keepers, dating back to the 1840s. The program will include images of the keepers and
their lighthouses and readings from newspapers and autobiographies.

SNAKES AND TURTLES LIVE! 2:00 – 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 17. Nature Discovery will present a fun and
educational program about snakes and turtles that can be found in our state. Observe these intriguing creatures up close as
you learn about their diverse life styles and survival skills. Following the program, you will have the opportunity to

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MICHIGAN TICKS: 2:00 – 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 24. Who wants to
come home after a wonderful day outside to find a tick attached to them or their furry companion? NO ONE! Ticks
unfortunately love the Michigan outdoors, too, and the risk of tick-borne diseases is increasing. Come learn about these
creatures and how to avoid them, so that you can continue to enjoy the great outdoors. Cost: $2/person or $5/family.
