When I think of January, I think polar vortex, especially after last year but the Stockbridge Branch has programs that will lighten up any dark, cold days. On Saturday, Jan. 18, 2– 3 p.m., we will have sled dogs from Tun-Dra Kennels and the staff will talk about mushing and the Iditarod. Hope for snow because they will put on a demonstration, weather permitting. We also have two crafting opportunities this month. On Tactile Tuesday, Jan. 14, 5– 6 p.m., we are offering Color Burst Fabric Design, and on Friday, Jan. 31, 5:30– 7 p.m. we will have a guest crafter who will show us how to turn old t-shirts into scarves, tote bags, dog toys and more in this no-sew workshop. Bring two or three old t-shirts for your creations. The title for our book discussion group meeting Jan. 31, 12– 1 p.m. is The Pioneers by David McCullough. Please take a look at the rest of the library’s activities on the SCN community calendar or at cadl.org/events.

January is a month for staying inside and watching movies, and CADL has several ways you can do that. Our shelves are well stocked with DVDs and Blu-rays, and we have a Lucky Day shelf of some of the latest movies, no waiting! If the Stockbridge Branch doesn’t have the title you want, borrow it from another CADL branch and it will be delivered to the Stockbridge Branch. Start your search at opac.cadl.org. CADL has streaming movies as well through the Hoopla and Kanopy services. You need to create accounts with your CADL card to watch hundreds of movies. Hoopla offers movies for families, yoga and other exercise videos, Hallmark love stories, BBC series, Academy Award winners, anime and animated children’s books, and of course so much more. Kanopy offers foreign films, independent movies, documentaries and many Great Courses classes. Kanopy also has a separate Kids Kanopy service with animated books, feature films and favorite PBS shows. However you watch movies, find your next one at the library.
