From the Superintendent’s Desk:

Now is an exciting time to be part of Stockbridge Community Schools

First of all, thank you to the school district community for all your support this school year. We are making great strides in every area of our school system as we continue to build upon our district-wide goals. One goal is to focus on relevant learning. We continue to have a very strong academic reputation at all levels of our school system, and we are also considered by many in our area as a forward-thinking school district and leaders in innovative education. The idea that education has relevancy or real world experiences can lead to higher student achievement. Relevance takes a look at applying prior knowledge to solve real-world situations.

As relevance is one of many focus areas for the school district, I would like to highlight a few examples in which relevant learning is occurring here as we continue to embed real-world learning experiences, STEM, and problem-based learning into our curriculum at all grade levels.

  • Smith Elementary will be hosting a “Get to Know Your Community” day in partnership with local businesses and organizations for career exploration throughout the school day on June 5th.
  • Heritage 5th grade students researched the food truck industry and its business principles. Then students chose a type of food and created a menu around that. They discussed average family meal spending and created a menu on an affordable budget. Students also developed a marketing strategy. The culminating part of the project is that the Wilson Talent Center Food Truck is visiting on June 4th.
  • Our Junior High is working on expanding upon and offering project-based electives for next year that promote creativity and critical thinking.
  • Our Senior High has several high-achieving programs that continue to receive recognition for real-world learning experiences: Our Journalism and Yearbook courses, Stockbridge Inventeam, Woods and Construction Trades, and First Robotics to name a few.

Finally, this year our K-12 science curriculum has been reviewed and updated for the Next Generation Science standards that provides rigorous hands-on critical thinking activities for students.

Our staff is very dedicated and continues to devote their time toward helping all our students encounter relevant learning experiences in the district. Our goal is to continue to build success at every school building and continue to improve.

If you have questions at any time please stop in, email, or call.

Wishing everyone a wonderful summer!
