A throng of well-wishers packed into Kneading Something Sweet and the Weathered Loft on Saturday, May 5, to celebrate the grand opening of two retail businesses housed under one roof at 104 E. Main Street in Stockbridge.

When visitors stepped inside Jessica and Cody Harvey’s Weathered Loft, they entered a vintage home décor shop, complete with the ambiance of a rustic, shabby chic farmhouse. As if to sweeten the experience, Angela Kolezar’s bakery occupies the other half of the newly renovated space, engulfing guests in mouthwatering scents of breads, cupcakes, cookies—plus a unique offering.

You see, Kneading Something Sweet features a highly popular and owner-trademarked item: a baked good that Kolezar named a “piennoli.”

“It’s like a cannoli but it’s a pie shell, and then Angela does a homemade filling.” Jessica Harvey gestured toward an empty shelf in the bakery’s glass display case. “When she makes them, they go quick.” Harvey added, and she said to satisfy demand Kolezar plans to feature a whole case of piennolis shortly.

Harvey’s personal favorite? Lemon meringue.

Harvey and Kolezar, two long-time friends with roots in the local community, said they shared dreams of opening their own shops and considered launching their dream ventures in Ann Arbor.

“But we decided to team up and open our doors in Stockbridge,” Harvey said with a hopeful smile.
