Join the Youth Leadership Team!
What is SRSLY? SRSLY is a substance misuse prevention coalition for youth. It is not an acronym, but rather the text abbreviation for “seriously”. We like to say that while we talk about serious subjects, we don’t like to take ourselves too seriously and make sure we have fun while learning leaderships skills and healthy choices both for our mental and physical health.
Our youth are the heart and brains behind SRSLY. Our Youth Leadership Team leads our coalition in planning fun events, creating positive community change, addressing destructive behaviors, and promoting healthy lifestyles. Their goal in planning those events, activities, and policies is to help youth and adults connect, develop skills, and build a stronger community. It’s also a great way to earn volunteer hours!
We also partner with adults from sectors across the community: schools, parents, law enforcement, healthcare professionals, religious organizations, businesses, civic or volunteer groups, youth-serving organizations, media, substance abuse organizations, and government.
What does a SRSLY member look like? First and foremost, SRSLY is open to anyone 5th grade and up! However, here are some examples of traits we particularly love about our members:
- Leaders – Someone who wants to set a positive example within the community and brings positive energy to everything they do.
- Planners – Someone who has creative ideas of fun and healthy events or activities they would like to see more of in their community and is dedicated to making it happen.
- Learners – Someone who is interested in learning more about healthy choices that can help both mentally and physically and gets excited about passing that information on to the rest of the community.
If any of these trait’s sound like you, we think you would be an awesome addition to SRSLY!
