Lady Panthers Clip Monroe at Airport Showcase
A big first quarter gave the Stockbridge girls’ basketball team an early lead and they held on to defeat Monroe 62-49 at the Carleton-Airport Girls’ Basketball Showcase Saturday.
Gwen Rogozinski scored 10 points and Kaylee Dalton five in the first quarter as the Panthers jumped out to a 19-9 lead after one quarter.
The Trojans made a game of it in the second quarter by outscoring the Panthers 14-11 to cut the lead to 30-23 at the half.
Madison Mazuca scored seven points in the third as the Panthers pushed the lead to 41-33.
Monroe began sending the Panthers to the line in the fourth, but Stockbridge was up to the challenge as the Panthers sealed the win by hitting 10 of 12 at the charity stripe in the final quarter.
Rogozinski and Mazuca finished with 19 points each to lead the Panthers.
Dalton added seven points and Grace Hall six. Chelsey Asquith chipped in with five points, Brooklyn Rochow four, and Rylee Tolson two.
The Panthers improved to 4-2 on the season. They return to action at home against Concord Monday, January 6.
