Lady Panthers Rout Olivet in GLAC Showdown
In what was supposed to be a showdown between the two teams picked to battle for the top spot in the GLAC, did not turn out as expected as Stockbridge blew out Olivet 61-39 Friday night.
The win moved the Panthers to 2-0 in the GLAC. They take on Lansing Christian Tuesday night and host Leslie in another league showdown Friday night. The Blackhawks are 3-0 in the conference and are the defending GLAC champions.
Grace Hall scored seven first quarter points to spark the Panthers to a 16-10 lead after one.
The Panthers scored just one basket in the second, but they were 8 for 8 from the free throw line as the lead grew to 26-16 at the half. Gwen Rogozinski was 6 for 6 from the charity stripe in the quarter.
A huge third quarter blew the game wide open for Stockbridge. They outscored the Eagles 19-8 in the period to take a commanding 45-24 lead and cruised to the win. Rogozinski tallied seven points and Madison Mazuca six to key the Panthers run in the third.
Stockbridge was 21-26 from the line for the game which keyed the big win.
Rogozinski led Stockbridge with 22 points, including 9 of 10 from the line.
Mazuca finished with 12 points, while Hall and Chelsey Asquith scored nine each. Kaylee Dalton added eight points and Brooklyn Rochow one.
The Panthers improved to 6-2 overall on the season.
