Lady Panthers Send Seniors Out with a Win. Districts Next
The Stockbridge girls’ basketball team wrapped up its regular season by sending its four seniors out with a win Saturday beating Fowlerville 60-54.
Senior’s Chelsey Asquith, Kaylee Dalton, Grace Hall, and Madison Mazuca played in their last home game and made sure they went out with a bang.
Fowlerville did not make it easy for the Panthers with hot outside shooting all night. The Gladiators sank nine three-pointers in the game that were able to keep them close until the very end.
While the Panthers struggled from the outside, they made up the difference at the free throw line. Stockbridge was 17 of 19 from the line for the game.
Gwen Rogozinski scored seven first quarter points, while Grace Hall added four to help the Panthers take a 17-12 lead after one.
Fowlerville hung tough in the second, but six more points by Rogozinski kept the Panthers lead 32-27 at the half.
The Gladiators would rally behind their three-point shooting and took the lead in the third quarter, but the Panthers closed the quarter out on a 6-0 run for a 43-39 lead after three.
Alaina Kellenberger came off the bench in the fourth quarter and scored six big points on put-backs to help the Panthers keep the Glads at bay and hold on for win.
Rogozinski finished with a team high 22 points, while Hall finished with eight. Mazuca chipped in with seven, Kellenberger and Asquith six each, Brooklyn Rochow five, Dalton three, and Rylee Tolson two.
The Panthers move up a division this year and will take part in a tough D2 district at Tecumseh starting Monday.
Stockbridge (14-2) will take on Blissfield (8-6) Monday at 5:00. The winner advances to Wednesday’s semifinals against Chelsea (11-2). The Panthers lost to Chelsea in the season opener back in February. The other side of the bracket had Adrian (0-11) and Tecumseh (7-6) playing Monday with Onsted (14-3) waiting for the winner Wednesday.
