Lady Panthers Sink Flying Dutchmen
The girls’ basketball team used a big second half to pull away from Manchester and cruise to a 71-43 win last week.
Gwen Rogozinski scored 10 first-quarter points as the Panther took a 12-5 lead after one.
Rogozinski continued her hot shooting night with 10 more points in the second quarter, while Brooklyn Rochow added four and Gracee Robidion three to help the Panthers push the lead to 30-18 at the break.
The game was delayed in the third quarter when a Manchester fan in the stands had an apparent heart attack was attended to by EMTs. The teams were sent to the locker room while the spectator was being attended to.
After the delay, the Panthers continued to pour it on by outscoring the Dutchmen 22-16 in the third behind nine points by Alaina Kellenberger and four by Taylor Lockhart to make it 52-34 after three.
The Panthers shot 20-25 from the free-throw line on the night and helped seal the win in the fourth quarter by sinking seven of nine from the line.
Rogozinski finished with a team-high 28 points and seven rebounds.
Robidou added 13 and Kellenberger 12 points and eight rebounds. Rochow and Lockhart scored eight each and Taylor Asquith two.
After a slow start that saw them fall behind Chelsea 22-4 Friday night, the Panthers would rally to make a game of it, but come up short in a 58-49 loss to the Bulldogs.
The Panthers could not buy a basket in the opening quarter, while Chelsea started hot and took an 18 point lead after one.
Rochow scored eight second-quarter points to help the Panthers cut the Chelsea lead to eight, but the Bulldogs scored the final eight of the half to take a 32-16 lead at the break.
The Panthers would try to battle back with Rochow scoring five and Rogozinski four in the third, but Chelsea would still hold a 46-30 lead after three.
Stockbridge would fight hard in the fourth, but could not rally back as Chelsea held on for the win.
Rochow led the Panthers with a career-high and double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Rogozinski finished with 11 points and Kellenberger a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds. Lockhart chipped in with five points, Paige Stolarz three, Rylee Tolson two, and Robidou one.
