Tina Patterson of Stockbridge reports on the excitement of being invited to compete with her dog, Dynasty’s Ziggy Stardust, at the American Kennel Club’s Fast CAT Invitational held in Wilmington, Ohio, the week of Oct. 7.

Thousands of dogs had competed in 2023 for the right to compete at the 2024 Invitational, but only the top five of each breed, or mixed breed, made the cut. In some cases, one-thousandth of a second made the difference between an invite or trying again next year.

More than 300 of Ziggy’s breed—miniature American shepherds—had competed in 2023 for the right to vie for the title at the Ohio Invitational in 2024. Ziggy Stardust was one of the Top 5 of his breed in 2023, and thereby received the opportunity to compete at the Invitational.

Entering the 2024 Fast CAT Invitational, Ziggy was in third place for his breed in the canine 100 yard “bunny” dash. At the end of the day, he held his 3rd-place position after two runs where he gave everything he had.

Patterson’s granddaughters, Laila Rose and Charli Rose, came from New Jersey to help cheer on Ziggy. They all considered it an honor to be part of the fun.

Ziggy and his entourage had a marvelous time, bringing home ribbons, memories, new friends, and even a few Ohio chocolate “buckeyes” to savor and remember this once-in-a-lifetime event.

A feature story about Ziggy and his lead-up to the 2024 AKC Fast CAT Invitational appeared in the October edition of the Stockbridge Community News. Go to stockbridgecommunitynews.com and search for “ziggy.”
