Darlene and Scott Karns, the owners of the McDonald’s in Stockbridge, believe in giving back to the communities where they operate their businesses.

This year they wanted to do something special to celebrate their 20th anniversary in Stockbridge and show their appreciation to the community.

After discussing many possible ways to recognize the milestone, the Karneses were led to donate a portion of their proceeds to Stockbridge Community Schools.

So on May 7, Scott and his regional manager, Stockbridge alumni Kim Shevrovich-Duncan, presented a $1,100 check to the Board of Education. It was a way of saying “thank you for the support and allowing them to be part of our community.”

Superintendent Karl Heidrich and BOE President Carrie Graham accepted the check with great appreciation.

Kim went on to explain some very exciting changes in the McDonald’s “Archways to Opportunity” program. which offers tuition assistance to its employees. As recently announced, the program has tripled its tuition assistance and lowered requirements for U.S. restaurant employees.

There also are major renovations planned for the Stockbridge location this fall. The drive-thru will remain open during construction, but the dining area will close for about 30 days. More information will be available as the date approaches.
