Local Student Runs Down Under

Stockbridge High School Sophomore Andy Schlaff had the experience of his life! This past summer, he participated in the 22nd Annual Gold Coast Classic Cross Country race, representing Team USA, in Brisbane, Australia. His journey all started with a letter of invitation from a DownUnder sports recruiter. The recruiting team looks at the MHSAA (Michigan High School Athletic Association) website, and liked how Andy’s records and PR (personal record) times improved. He was honored to have been chosen.
Andy and his dad Ralph went on the 10 day adventure June 29th thorugh July 8th. He said that his most memorable moments “were the ones spent with my teammates. We became friends quickly and still get together and talk on snapchat”. Along with time spent with friends, Andy had time to try his surfing skills, hold a Koala, take selfies with a Kangaroo, and taste calamari!
If any of his Stockbridge Cross Country Team gets invited, he encourages them to go!
