Micah Beauregard Has Eyes on a State Title

Only a handful of runners can say they have a shot at winning a state title in track and field, but Stockbridge junior Micah Beauregard thinks he may have a shot a winning one in two events.

Beauregard will go into this week’s Division 3 State Finals at Jenison with his sights set on the top spot in the 800 and 1600 meter races.

He was the Regional champion in the 1600 and finished second in the 800 and will be seeded high in both events.

“I am just a few seconds behind the top seed in each race,” Beauregard said. “With a good race, I really think I have a shot of getting the top spot.”

Beauregard is coming off an All-State finish at the D3 cross country finals where he finished 18th giving him back to back All-State Honors.

“I ran with a hernia at the cross country state finals,” he said. “I had surgery during the offseason and fell better than ever.”

He easily won the GLAC title in each event and until the 800 in the Regional had yet to be pushed by anyone.

“It is really a mental thing to keep pushing myself,” Beauregard said. “I work on my stride and my timing to keep getting better.”

Micah also has some push from his brother Maison, who qualified for the state finals in the 300 hurdles.

“We have a little sibling rivalry going,” Micah said. “We ran together in the 1600 relay and it was always a contest to see who ran the faster cut time.”

Based on Regional times, Micah will be seeded fourth in the 800, just 1.5 seconds behind the top qualifier from Harbor Springs.

He will have some work cut out for him in the 1600 being seeded eighth, nine seconds from the top qualifier from Saugatuck.

“I study the other runners, I know if they start fast or hold back and kick at the end,” Beauregard said. “I will know where each one will be at the finals.”

Maison will have to be at his best in qualifying to reach the finals. He is seeded 18th based on Regional results, with the top eight qualifying for the finals.

While Micah has his sights set on the top prize, you can look for him to have an improvement from the 2018 state finals where he finished fifth in the 800 and 10th in the 1600.
