Ronald Mayer

Ronald Glenn (Ron) Mayer, of Jackson, MI, formerly of Munith, MI, born October 3, 1925 passed away peacefully on September 30, 2018 at his home under the loving care of his wife and children, and Henry Ford Allegiance Health Hospice. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marilyn, son Bruce, daughter Becky, and grandchildren Staci and Ryan (Breyan) Mayer, and Kaitlyn Filip. He also is survived by two great-grandchildren, Avery and Noah Mayer. He was preceded in death by his son Brent, parents Glenn & Mae (Bullis) Mayer, and sisters Doris Stowe and Lila Cooper.

Ron is a World War II Navy veteran who served his country on the U.S.S. Rinehart in sonar and radar. He was on the English Channel when Germany surrendered and on Wake Island when Japan surrendered. He was aboard the Rinehart in both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. His commander was Woody Hayes.

Ron was a Rural Mail Carrier in the Munith area for 25 years and retired as Postmaster after five years. He was a charter member of the American Legion Post in Munith, Munith Rod & Gun Club and the Munith Lions Club. He was instrumental in forming these organizations. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunted in the U.P. for many years.

Visitation will be held at Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home in Stockbridge on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at the Munith United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon following.
