Panthers Knock Off GLAC Leading Perry
The Stockbridge boys’ basketball team came up with a much needed conference win Tuesday night when the Panthers knocked off GLAC leading Perry 62-44.
The win handed the Ramblers their first loss in the conference with a 5-1 record. Stockbridge improved to 4-1 and has a chance to move into a first place tie with a home game with Lakewood Friday night.
Tuesday’s game looked a lot like last Friday’s Leslie game as the Panthers controlled the first half, but went cold in the third quarter and the Ramblers rallied like the Blackhawks did last week.
Chris Hall, Brandon Nelson, and Noah Robidou scored five points each in the opening quarter to help the Panthers jump to a 19-12 lead after one.
The lead would grow to 32-20 at the break behind six second quarter points by Jeremy Pilch.
The Panthers went cold in the third quarter, many times settling for a long three point attempt and the shots weren’t falling as Perry went on a 15-2 run to take a one points lead with under two minutes to go in the third.
But unlike the Leslie game, the Panthers righted the ship after the Perry run.
Stockbridge closed the third by scoring the last five points to take a 40-36 lead.
The Panthers defense came up with several big steals in the fourth and the shots started falling and they started to pull away. They put 22 points on the board in the fourth quarter and outscored Perry 22-8 behind six points each by Hall and Robidou to pull away for the win.
Hall led the Panthers with 16 points, while Pilch and Robidou scored 12 each.
John Morris added seven points, Tylin Ayers six, Nelson five, and Josh Lewis four.
Stockbridge improved to 6-3 overall.
