Panthers Knock Off Perry To Keep GLAC Title Hopes Alive

The Stockbridge boys’ basketball team came up big when it needed it the most as the Panthers knocked off GLAC leading Perry 58-51 Tuesday night and kept their league title hopes alive.
Perry entered the match-up with a 10-1 league record and the Panthers 8-2 and needed a win to stay in the title hunt. The win lifts the Panthers to 9-2 in the GLAC and they need a win Friday night at Lakewood to clinch a share of the league title. Leslie still has a chance to make it a three-way tie. The Blackhawks at 8-2 and need wins over Maple Valley and Lakewood to move into a tie for the top spot.
Tylin Ayers and Brandon Nelson scored six points each as the Panthers jumped out to a 15-9 lead after one quarter.
The Ramblers began to chip away at the lead in the second by outscoring the Panthers 16-14 to cut the lead to 29-25 at the break.
The third quarter was a struggle for the Panthers as they scored just six point on triples Chris Hall and John Morris and trailed 36-35 heading into the final quarter.
The Panthers retook the lead a=early in the fourth and the Ramblers started sending them to the line, but they struggled at the charity stripe hitting just 9 of 19 in the final period, but it was enough as they held on for the win.
Hall led the Panthers with 20 points, including 12 in the final period.
Ayers finished with 13 points and Nelson 11. Noah Robidou added seven points, Jeremy Pilch four, and Morris three.
The Panthers improved to 12-5 overall on the season.
