Panthers Open Season With Win Over Webberville

The Stockbridge boys’ basketball team opened its season with a strong win over Webberville Tuesday night defeating the Spartans 73-64.

The Panthers have high hopes for this season and will be looking to compete for the top spot in the GLAC.

Behind Chris Hall’s eight points, the Panthers got off to a quick start by taking a 19-10 lead after one quarter.

The lead grew to double digits in the second with Adam Twining and Jeremy Pilch scoring five points each in the second and the Panthers led 37-21 at the break.

Webberville began to chip away at the lead, outscoring Stockbridge 18-14 to make it 51-39 after three.

Stockbridge was sent to the foul line 19 times in the fourth quarter as the Spartans tried to rally, but the Panthers hit 12 of the free throws to put away the opening night win.

Hall led the Panthers with 18 points and five rebounds.

Pilch finished with 16 points and a team high eight boards, while Ty Ayers was 7 for 7 from the field and finished with 15 points. Noah Robidou chipped in with eight points and Twining seven. John Morris added four points, Josh Lewis three, and Lucas Gauss two.

The Panthers hit 27 of 38 free throws as a team.

Stockbridge will travel to Chelsea Friday night in a boys/girls doubleheader. The girls will tip off against the Bulldogs at 5:30 with the boys following at 7:00 PM.
