Panthers Pull Away for Homecoming Win

The Stockbridge football team sent a large Homecoming crowd home happy after taking down St. Charles 28-14 Friday, October 18.

The Panthers used a fast start to take an early lead.

They recovered an onside kick on the opening kickoff and just a couple of plaus later Rily Kennedy ran one in from 14-yards out for a score. The two-point cinversion failed an the Panthers led 6-0.

The next series saw the St. Charles quarterback lose grip on the snap and the fumble was recovered by Jaidehn Conant to give the Panthers great field position.

They would capitalize when Kevin Killinger rambled in from 11-yards out. Drew Robinson ran in the two-point conversion to give Stockbridge a 14-0 lead.

The Panthers would force a punt and drive down inside the ten yard line, but a penalty and a run for a loss forced a turnover on downs by Stockbridge.

St. Charles would rally in the second with a pair of scores to tie the game at 14, but on the final play of the half Kennedy hit Jeremy Pilch with a five-yard TD pass. Zach Miller ran in a reverse for the two-points to give Stockbridge a 22-14 lead.

The the third quarter saw the Panthers drive deep into St. Charles territory twice, but could not convert either time to keep it 22-14 after three.

Kennedy and Robinson would pick off St. Charles passes to keep the Panthers in the lead in the second half.

Stockbridge would seal the win when Kennedy busted through for a 34-yard TD run to make it 28-14 and that would be the final.

Kennedy had a huge nightwith 160 yards rushing in 17 carries and two scores. He was also 1-5 passinf for five yards and the big touchdown to Pilch to end the half.

Pilch caught the one pass for a score and rushed for 60 yards on four carries. Killinger rushed for 79 yards and a score, while Robinson added 28 yards rushing and a two-point run.

The Panthers defense had its best game in recent memory as the Panthers held St. Charles to just 66 total yards and forced three turnovers. Pilch led the defense with five tackles, one sack and three tackles for loss. Miller recorded seven tackles and Matthew Redford six.

Stockbridge rushed for 350 yards on the ground and passed for just the five yards.
