Panthers Roll Over Comstock in Opener

It was a long time coming, but the Stockbridge football teams finally opened the 2020 football season in impressive fashion, rolling over the visitors from Comstock 47-21 Friday, September 18.

The Panthers started fast when Riley Kennedy, making his first start at quarterback for Stockbridge, ran one in from two yards out to cut the lead to 6-0 after the two-point pass failed.

Kevin Killinger then picked up a fumble and ran it in from 35 yards out for the defense. Kennedy hit Jeremy Pilch with the two point conversion to give the Panthers a 14-0 lead.

Comstock bounced back with a TD run to make it 14-7 after one quarter.

The Kennedy to Pilch connection dominated the second quarter and the offense got rolling for Stockbridge.

Riley Kennedy tossed four touchdown passes and ran for one in his first start at quarterback for Stockbridge.

Kennedy connected with Pilch on scoring passes of 25 and 76 yards to give the Panthers a 28-13 lead over the Colts. Kennedy then hit Drew Philipp with a 30 yard touchdown pass and the Panthers led 34-13 at the half.

The Pilch/Kenney connection hooked up one more time in the third quarter, this time from 43 yards out to make it 40-13 Stockbridge after three quarters.

Pilch was not done however as he picked off a pass and ran it back 65 yards for a pick-6. Spencer McLennan added the extra point kick and a 47-21 final.

Kennedy was efficient with his passes as all four completions went for touchdowns. He finished 4 of 9 for 188 yards. He also rushed for 46 yards and a score.

Pilch caught three passes for 158 yards and three scores, while Philipp caught one for 30 yards and a TD.

Kevin Killinger led the team in rushing with 65 yards on 16 carries, while Philipp had three for 19 yards, and Gary Killing two for 12.

Noah Robidou led the defense with seven tackles and four assists.

The Panthers will host rival Leslie Friday night at 7:00 at Boyd Stadium.
